Adopt A Primate

Found living in 2010 as a single female without a troop. After undergoing successful rehabilitation she is slowly being introduced to the free roaming troop, but will remain semi dependant for some time.

Orphan. 7 month old Male. Arrived Feb 2012. Undergoing rehabilitation. (The little one in the photo)

Arrived in 2009 with Gumble, after their mothers were shot by farmers.

8 month old male orphan. A farmer's wife brought him to us after much persuasion on our part. She'd been dressing him in baby clothes etc hence we are struggling somewhat with the dehumanising process.

15 month old male. Arrived at the beginning of August 2012. He was kept as a pet from very early on and unfortunately dressed in clothes and treated like a human baby. Until his arrival at Darwin Primate Group he had never seen another baboon and so it is taking time to adapt to his new home and fellow baboons.

Mika is a 2-year old orphan female. We are unsure as to the origin of Mika as she was abandoned in a crate at our front gate approximately 6 months ago. Mika has been a wonderful surrogate mother for Erica but only performs this role when Erica is extremely distressed.

An ex pet  - 3 yr old male. Arrived March 2012. His canines have been removed making it  improbable he can ever be fully rehabilitated.

7 month old orphan Male.  Arrived May 2012. Was found wandering alone beside the road at night.  Will    undergo rehabilitation and hopefully be released back into the wild.

3 Year old Female.  Arrived  February 2012. Frida arrived with brain damage, but has slowly improved and is now undergoing integration.

6 month old Male.  December 2011.
Mother run over/killed. His left arm is paralysed and he has been adopted by Japie who now has 2 adopted monkeys (Gremlin and Eddy) who each have a paralysed arm.

Arrived January 2012 as a frightened 3 month old orphan female found alone beside the road.

Arrived October 2010 and is now 5 years old and an ex pet who can never be released.

Arrived in 2009 at the same time as Bean, as a baby male orphan, whose mother was shot by farmers.

Arrived in November 2011 after being badly burnt by someone throwing hot water over her. She has slowly healed and is now being trained for release back into the wild.

Arrived in 2008 and is now the Beta male in the free roaming troop.

Arrived in December 2010 as an infant orphaned male and is undergoing rehab for a return to the wild.

Lost both hands and forearms in a trap in 2007 but survived. He was left by his troop and so resorted to raiding farms to find easy food. He was to be shot by the farmers but fortunately he was captured and bought to DPG.

7 month old male found dumped in car park in Knysna by a caring couple who bought her to DPG in May 2012. Undergoing rehab for a return to the wild.

Arrived in January 2009, and this orphaned female is now part of the free roaming troop and number 2 in the matriarch.

Arrived January 2010 as an orphaned female ex pet, who has integrated well into the un releasable troop. Surrogate mother to Eddy and Gremlin.

Arrived in January 2010 as an infant after her mother was run over by a car. She quickly bonded with Harriet who was top Female and she has enjoyed a high status in the free roaming troop.

This little female was found alone in the bush just a few days old, dehydrated and close to death. She is recovering well and will hopefully be released one day.

Orphaned male who arrived in 2009. Sage has also undergone successful rehabilitation and is now only semi dependant on DPG as he is now living with the free roaming troop.
